FAQ

Quick answers about our Bitaxe miners, setup and orders.

Getting started

What is a Bitaxe?

A Bitaxe is a small, open-source Bitcoin miner built around a single ASIC chip. It runs at home from a power supply, connects over Wi-Fi and mines on its own.

Newer models such as the Bitaxe Gamma use the BM1370 chip and reach about 1.2 TH/s at roughly 15โ€“25 W.

What do I need to get started?
  • A 5 V power supply with a 5.5 ร— 2.1 mm barrel plug for the Bitaxe Gamma. It must deliver at least 4 A, and 5 V / 6 A (30 W) is recommended. Check your product page to see whether one is included.
  • A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. 5 GHz is not supported.
  • A Bitcoin address of your own, where a reward would be paid.
  • Airflow: the Bitaxe needs active cooling, the heatsink alone is not enough.
How do I set it up?
  • Plug in the power supply and wait about 30 seconds for the Bitaxe to start.
  • On your phone or laptop, join the Wi-Fi network the Bitaxe creates (its name looks like Bitaxe_XXXX or AxeOS_XXXX) and open 192.168.4.1 in your browser.
  • Enter the name and password of your 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi. The Bitaxe restarts and joins your network.
  • Find its IP address in your router's device list, open it in a browser to reach the AxeOS dashboard, then enter your mining pool and your Bitcoin address.
Which mining pool should I use?

Choose a pool that supports solo mining, for example public-pool.io or solo.ckpool.org. Each pool's website lists the exact address and port to enter in AxeOS. As your username (worker) you enter your own Bitcoin address, so any reward is paid directly to you.

Running your miner

How much power does it use?

The Bitaxe Gamma draws roughly 15โ€“25 W. Running around the clock at 20 W, that is about 0.5 kWh per day, or around โ‚ฌ4โ€“5 per month at โ‚ฌ0.30 per kWh. Your own electricity price decides the real cost.

It won't connect, or the hashrate is low. What can I check?
  • Make sure you are using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • Check that your power supply delivers a stable 5 V with at least 4 A. Weak supplies cause restarts and low hashrate.
  • Confirm the fan is spinning and the miner has room to breathe.
  • Unplug it for a few seconds and try again.
